Do you feel overwhelmed by what’s still ahead on your journey through life?

Updated: Jan 4, 2022

Do you feel stressed and overwhelmed just thinking about how far you’ve still got to go, what you’re still yet to achieve, everything involved in getting you from where you are now to where you want to be?

Do you have high expectations, feel impatient or under pressure to have reached a certain point by a certain time?

We live in a very fast paced world now, we’ve become so impatient and many have a never ending to-do list which makes them feel as though life is like a treadmill. Constantly putting the effort in but feeling as though they’re not getting anywhere.

It’s so important for our wellbeing that we learn to look back and acknowledge just how far we HAVE come and what we HAVE already achieved. So often as soon as we reach one mile stone or cross something off our list we instantly focus on what’s next rather than celebrate what we’ve just achieved. We really must stop every now and again to smell the roses.

Expressing gratitude is an incredibly powerful way to help you feel good and can have a ripple effect. And while it’s great to feel thankful for what you’ve just experienced or achieved we must remember to be thankful for all the other things too such as our health, our comfortable bed, fresh running water etc even our gift of life and the air that we breathe.

As humans we love being rewarded and we can use this to our advantage if we’re struggling to motivate ourselves. Rewards don’t have to be grand gestures, simple things like taking time to enjoy your favourite coffee or sitting down to watch your favourite television program once you’ve reached a certain mile stone are effective. Be mindful not to reward yourself with food / alcohol or buying possessions if these are challenge areas for you. Opt instead for pleasurable experiences.

Patience and compassion must also be cultivated. We live in a world now where we crave instant gratification however if we can train ourselves to expect delayed gratification that will serve us well. Like they say, Rome wasn’t built in a day!

We can often neglect our self care when we feel under pressure to be constantly working towards achieving something which causes stress. It can also mean that we can feel guilty when we’re not doing things to reach those goals so we end up not fully immersing or enjoying those experiences.

Life really is a gift and an experience to be enjoyed. Your health, wellbeing and happiness is true wealth and yet so often we side line these when other ‘priorities’ crop up.

I believe that each of us has a divine purpose here on Earth and nowhere does it say that we have to have fulfilled that purpose by a set time or date. Instead we’ve our entire lifetime to achieve it. So take the pressure off of yourself.

It’s also easy to fall into the trap of needing or seeking approval or recognition from others in order to validate ourselves or what we’re doing. We give away our power when we do this. It stems from a belief that someone else’s option of us is more valid than our own. Learn to praise yourself, be your own best friend and cheerleader and this will really boost your self esteem and confidence. So when you’ve done something you’re proud of congratulate yourself and allow yourself to feel those feel good feelings.

Congratulate yourself now for taking some time to learn how to better look after yourself and enhance your life.

And here’s my gratitude for you having taken the time to read my blog, thank you 💝

Have a wonderful day 💗
